🌳 $125K Coming to Park Circle After 80% Ask for More Trees

Council Member Christine Liu is working to bring more trees to Park Circle in New Hyde Park. She's responding to what locals actually want after running a survey this past summer.

Liu reached out to people living near Park Circle, covering about a 600-square-foot area around the park. The results were pretty clear—80% of residents said they wanted more trees for shade and to make the space look better. Right now, the park doesn't have much greenery and gets way too much sun.

The good news? Liu managed to get a $125,000 state grant to pay for new trees and an irrigation system to keep them healthy. The plan is to start planting in 2027, once the grant money comes through.

Local Gem: Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve

Once a landfill, this 52-acre preserve in Merrick now offers sweeping views, serene trails, and surprising wildlife—including a herd of goats used for eco-friendly landscaping. With a kayak launch, fishing pier, and winding paths through prairie and woodland habitats, Levy Park blends conservation with recreation. The park also features a windmill-powered pond and panoramic vistas stretching to NYC and the Jones Beach Tower.
