$150K for Westbury’s Recreation and Senior Facilities
Westbury’s Recreation Complex has a $150,075 county Community Revitalization Program grant approved by the Nassau Legislature on July 27. The investment targets the recreation and senior facilities residents use for classes, gatherings and community programs.
The work includes heating and cooling upgrades, roof repairs and replacement gutters at the Recreation Center. Outside, funding covers new Senior Center steps, replacement of the front walk, recreation-office steps and an asphalt walkway connecting the parking lot to Linden Avenue.
New handrails are also planned around the complex, including the Senior Center’s south ramp. These are useful everyday improvements for residents navigating the campus. The county’s announcement confirms the grant’s approval and intended uses; it does not state that all work is finished.

A Free Home Energy Check Before Winter
PSEG Long Island offers customers a no-cost home energy assessment to identify potential efficiency improvements and eligibility for incentives or financing. Ask what the visit covers and what any recommended work would cost. A free assessment does not mean every upgrade is free.

EmPower+ Helps Eligible Households With Home Upgrades
For households that meet its income requirements, NYSERDA’s EmPower+ program goes beyond an assessment. It can provide no-cost direct-install measures and funding toward improvements such as air sealing, insulation, heat pumps and electrical upgrades.
The program includes eligible owners and renters of one- to four-family homes. Assistance depends on income, the building and the proposed work; renters need owner approval for core improvements. Review Nassau’s eligibility guidelines and speak with the program before committing to a contractor. A free assessment and an approved upgrade budget are different things.
Local Spotlight: MOTW Coffee in Farmingdale
MOTW Coffee at 623 Main Street is one to add to your Farmingdale coffee rotation. Husband-and-wife owners Razi and Tahseen Hussaini opened the shop on August 8, with coffee, tea and a pastry selection that includes baklava and honeycomb bread, Greater Long Island reported.
The café also includes a meditation room honoring their daughter, Hidayah Noor. This is a spotlight on a summer opening, not a claim that the shop opened this week. Check its current menu and hours before visiting, particularly since the original report described an initial summer schedule.
