Four Nassau fire departments have been awarded a combined $509,499 in federal funding for vehicles, operations, safety and volunteer staffing. It is a public investment in the equipment and people behind local emergency response.
Inwood: $220,476 toward new vehicles.
Stewart Manor: $119,500 for volunteer recruitment and retention.
Bellerose Terrace: $96,666 for operations and safety.
Lawrence-Cedarhurst: $72,857 for operations and safety.
The awards come through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters and SAFER programs. They support future purchases and staffing efforts; they do not mean every upgrade has already been completed.

🎺 Mineola’s Mustangs Are Invited to London
Mineola High School’s marching band has been invited to the 2028 London New Year’s Day Parade. Five parade officials travelled to Mineola to present the invitation in person.
The district’s Wind Ensemble was also selected for a gala concert during the festival week. It is a hometown milestone worth celebrating as students prepare for an international stage.

🛍️ Hewlett’s Old King Kullen Has a New Tenant
The former King Kullen at 1765 Peninsula Boulevard is set for a different kind of shopping. Savers has leased the 26,895-square-foot supermarket space, plus the former bank building next door.
The plan: Secondhand clothing and household goods.
Opening target: The second quarter of 2027.
Still undecided: What the separate bank building will become.
A familiar Five Towns retail corner now has a next chapter. The opening is planned, so this is one to watch for next year.

🍺 Somerset Plans a Bigger West Hempstead Home
Somerset Brewing is preparing a roughly 5,000-square-foot space on Cherry Valley Avenue, more than twice the size of its current home. The plans include a full restaurant, a larger brewhouse and a patio.
The existing taproom at 94C Cherry Valley Avenue continues operating while the move is prepared. Check the brewery’s current updates before assuming the new space is open.

📚 Your Nassau Library Card Starts Close to Home
For most Nassau residents, a library card comes from the library serving the district or village where you live or own property.
The Nassau Library System’s guide helps you find the right library. Ask that library what identification it needs and which borrowing or digital services your card includes. This is a standing community resource.
