Hello Nassau! Let’s Talk What’s New & What’s Next
It’s Wednesday—halfway to the weekend! We’re here with your midweek dose of local headlines, community wins, and events to keep your calendar buzzing. Let’s see what’s happening across Nassau County today.

Fun Fact Spotlight:
Did you know that Nassau County is home to Shelter Rock — a 55‑foot‑high glacial erratic deposited some 11,000‑20,000 years ago? Weighing around 1,800 tons and boasting a 30‑foot overhang, the rock has been linked to Native American sites and legends. Although it sits on private estate grounds, its presence just off Shelter Rock Road in Manhasset make it one of Long Island’s most remarkable natural landmarks.

A big move is happening in Deer Park, where Faropoint just bought a 40,000-square-foot industrial building for $7.55 million. The best part? Apogee Lighting is staying put as the main tenant.

This deal means a lot for Nassau County. The building is in a great spot and it's keeping local jobs right where they are. Having Apogee Lighting stay in the area helps keep our local economy strong and gives people steady work.

This kind of investment makes Nassau County a better place to live and work. It keeps jobs close to home and helps our local shops do well. When businesses stick around, everyone wins - from workers to nearby stores to families who've lived here for years.

Imagine stepping into a world lit only by the mesmerizing glow of thousands of hand-carved pumpkins under a crisp autumn sky. This isn't a dream—it's The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze Long Island, the island's most dazzling Halloween event that transforms the historic Old Bethpage Village Restoration into a magical, glowing wonderland. For families and fall enthusiasts, it has become one of the most anticipated Halloween events in all of New York.

NYU Langone Hospital on Long Island has just opened a new Family Care Suite with 10 private rooms in Mineola. The new space gives new parents and babies a cozy, private spot to bond with modern comforts. It's part of NYU's push to make healthcare more personal in Nassau County.

A new coffee shop is mixing Brooklyn cool with Roslyn charm. Local owner Selita serves up quality coffee and fresh pastries in a cozy spot built for hanging out. They're planning fun community events for 2024 too.

Lynbrook's favorite Italian spot is back and better than ever. The restaurant got a makeover, added outdoor seating, and updated their menu with fresh, local ingredients. Still serving the classics you love, just with some new twists that make it perfect for family dinners or date nights.

If you’ve avoided accidents and tickets, you might qualify for significantly lower car insurance rates – and telematics can prove it. Telematics refers to the use of in-car technology (usually a small plug-in device, smartphone app, or built-in connected car system) that tracks your driving behavior. Insurers then set discounts or premiums based on how safely you actually drive.
Potential perks

✔️ Lower premiums for safe driving and low mileage
✔️ Discounts for anti-theft devices and advanced safety features
✔️ EV/hybrid and homeowner discounts with some carriers

Start with Money’s best car insurance providers and lock in a rate that matches your record.
