A Hidden Ruin in the Woods: Shoe Factory Site

Tucked inside Muttontown Preserve, there’s a quiet set of old stone ruins most visitors never reach right off Route 106. It’s the remains of a 19th-century shoe factory, now half-swallowed by the woods. No signage pulling you in, no crowd, just a structure that feels like you stumbled onto something you weren’t supposed to find. It’s a short detour if you know where to look, and easy to miss if you don’t.
