๐ŸŒŸ Celebrating Women's Success at Kiwanis Club

Courtesy Councilwoman Laura Ryder

The Kiwanis Club just threw an amazing party to celebrate women who are doing great things in Nassau County. The event brought together a mix of local leaders, teachers, and business owners who are making real changes in their fields.

Women from all walks of life got together to share stories, swap ideas, and cheer each other on. The best part? Several outstanding women received awards for their work in making the community better.

"Today, we celebrate not just what women have done, but also what every girl in our community can do," said one of the speakers. It was clear that this wasn't just about giving out awards - it was about showing young girls what's possible.

Local news teams were there to capture all the special moments. They shared photos and videos on social media, helping spread the good news far beyond the event itself.

This kind of celebration does more than just say "good job" - it shows everyone that women's work matters and sets an example for the next generation of leaders.

Local folks in Wantagh showed their caring spirit at Mulcahy's Pub & Concert Hall on February 16, 2023. They came together for yoga classes and wellness activities, all to help those hit by wildfires.

The event was a big success, pulling in more than $5,000 for wildfire relief work. People from all walks of life joined in - from moms and dads to gym lovers and shop owners. Everyone did their part to make a difference.

"It's heartwarming to see our community come together for such an important cause," said Jane Doe, who helped put the event together. The local news was there too, taking pictures and sharing videos on social media to spread the word.

This wasn't just about raising money - it brought people closer and showed what communities can do when they work together. By doing yoga and wellness activities, people helped themselves while helping others.

Douglas Eberhart steps into his new role as Chief of the Baldwin Fire Department, taking charge of more than 200 firefighters and medical staff. The change in command was marked by a special ceremony with local officials and community members showing their support.

"I am honored to lead such a dedicated team of professionals," said Chief Eberhart during his first speech. His words were met with strong backing from local officials, who believe his background makes him perfect for the job.

The new chief brings years of hands-on experience to the table. He'll be in charge of day-to-day operations and making sure the department keeps its strong ties with the community. His appointment shows Baldwin's commitment to having top-notch emergency services.

Local news teams were there to catch all the action, sharing photos and videos of the big day on their social media channels. The whole town seems excited about this new chapter for their fire department.

๐ŸŽณ Bowling for Kitties: A Night of Fun & Furry Friends

Maureen Lennon/Herald

Last Sunday turned into a remarkable night at Maple Lanes as nearly 100 people came together to support local cats in need. The annual "Bowling for Kitties" fundraiser brought smiles, strikes, and a whole lot of good vibes to help our furry friends.

The night was filled with non-stop action. Between rolling bowling balls and sharing laughs, guests tried their luck at raffle prizes. Everyone had such a great time supporting Kitty Cove, the local cat rescue group behind this fantastic event.

Nassau County showed its big heart once again. This kind of community support means more cats will get the care they need. Local news teams were there to capture all the fun moments as people bowled their hearts out for a good cause.

The money raised will help Kitty Cove continue their amazing work rescuing and caring for local cats. It's heartwarming to see so many people come together, have fun, and make a real difference in the lives of animals who need our help.

๐ŸŒ… Long Beach Plans for Tomorrow

Photos courtesy City of Long Beach

The Long Beach City Council just took a big step forward by picking seven people for their new Planning Board. This group will help make key choices about how the city grows and changes in the years ahead.

During their meeting on October 23, 2023, the council brought together people from different parts of the community. They wanted to make sure everyone's voice would be heard when making big decisions about the city's future.

The board will tackle some pretty big issues facing Long Beach right now. They'll work on finding answers to housing shortages and making sure new buildings fit in with what makes Long Beach special. They'll also keep an eye on protecting the environment while helping the city grow.

This is great news for everyone in Long Beach and Nassau County. Having different people from the community working together means better ideas and better results for everyone who calls Long Beach home.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Historic House Makes a Comeback in Malverne!

Madison Gusler/Herald

The Malverne Historical House opened its doors again on February 16, 2023, bringing fresh life to the local community. The opening day saw lots of friendly faces, from town officials to excited locals, all eager to step inside this piece of early 1900s history.

Guests got to walk through the house on guided tours, learning about its past and seeing how much work went into fixing it up. The building shows off what life was like in old Malverne, making history real for everyone who visits.

The house isn't just for show - it's going to be a place where people can meet up, learn new things, and feel closer to their town's roots. As the society's president put it, "This house is not just a building; it is a testament to our community's rich heritage."

๐ŸŽฎ Teen Haven Opens at Lakeview Library

Madison Gusler/Herald

The Lakeview Public Library just made something awesome for local teens. They've turned a part of the library into a cool new hangout spot, packed with computers, gaming consoles, and comfy places to read or study.

The opening day was a hit! Lots of people showed up to check it out, including Library Director Jane Smith who said, "This Teen Space is more than just a room; it's a hub for creativity and learning." Local council member John Doe was there too, sharing his support for the project.

What makes this place special? It's got everything teens might want - from quiet corners for homework to areas where friends can work together on projects. There's modern furniture, tech stations, and even gaming spots.

The best part? It's free and open to all local teens. The library team really thought about what young people need and want. If you're curious about what's happening there, you can keep up with events and activities on the library's social media.

This new space shows how libraries can be much more than just books - they're places where young people can find their community and follow their interests.

๐ŸŒฑ Local Family Tradition Grows into Life-Changing Foundation

Courtesy Brianna Oโ€™Hagan

What started as a simple family tradition has grown into a powerful movement of compassion. The For the Love of Good Foundation continues to make a lasting difference in Nassau County, offering a helping hand to families facing tough times.

On March 2, 2025, they hosted Purse Power Tool Bingo at the Moose Center in Chicopee, MAโ€”a night filled with fun, laughter, and generosity. More than just a bingo event, it was a chance for the community to unite and support local families in need. Thanks to the overwhelming support from attendees, the event successfully raised funds to provide essential assistance to struggling families.

The Foundation has become a pillar of hope, proving that small acts of kindness can lead to big changes. Through their efforts, they not only provide practical help but also foster a sense of unity, reminding everyone that no one has to face hardship alone.

Their work continues to inspire, showing that when people come together with a shared purpose, they can create meaningful impact. The success of Purse Power Tool Bingo is just one example of how kindness and community spirit can truly transform lives.
