Hello Nassau! Let’s Talk What’s New & What’s Next
It’s Wednesday—we’re halfway to the weekend! We’re here with your midweek dose of local headlines, community wins, and events to keep your calendar buzzing. Let’s see what’s happening across Nassau County today.

Fun Fact Spotlight:
📮 Mail & Naming Reality Check
Roslyn (then Hempstead Harbor) opened its post office in 1838.
Because Nassau County wasn’t formed until 1899, any claim of a “Nassau post office in the 1700s” doesn’t fit the historical record.

🎨 Fraser Park Gets a Bright New Playground Makeover

The Town of Hempstead just finished a major upgrade to Fraser Park's playground in Merrick. The new space is designed so kids of all abilities can play together comfortably.

The playground now has bright, accessible equipment and activities that work for different sensory needs. These updates make sure every child can join in the fun, whether they need extra support or just want to climb and swing. The town wanted to create a place where no one feels left out.

Local officials are hoping this becomes a favorite spot for families across Merrick and nearby neighborhoods. It's all about getting kids outside and giving parents a welcoming place to gather. The sensory-friendly features are especially helpful for children who process the world differently.

☕ New Coffee Shop Brews Up Community Spirit

Karmic Grind just opened its doors in Oyster Bay, serving up specialty coffee, pastries, and light bites daily from 7 AM to 7 PM. The locally-owned spot at 123 Main Street focuses on sustainability and locally sourced ingredients. It's shaping up to be a great place for neighbors to connect over a cup.

💊 Libraries Now Stock Narcan to Save Lives

All 12 public libraries in Nassau County's 5th Senate District now have free Narcan kits on their walls. This is a first-of-its-kind program launched to help reverse opioid overdoses in emergencies. With over 22,000 overdose deaths in New York since 2020, having naloxone at hand could make all the difference.

🏀 Oyster Bay High Gym Gets $36K Makeover

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich school board approved a $36,800 donation from the Athletic Booster Club to repaint the high school gym. Some residents questioned whether this was the best use of funds during the October 28 meeting. The project aims to spruce up a key community space, though debate continues about spending priorities.
