Molloy University Lands in TIME's Top 100 Colleges Nationwide

Rockville Centre's Molloy University has earned a spot among the country's top 100 colleges in a new national ranking.

Molloy ranked No. 85 on TIME's America's Best Colleges 2026-2027 list, making it one of only 14 New York institutions in the Top 100. According to the university, it is the only Long Island college or university to make the list's Top 100.

The ranking evaluates colleges using student outcomes, the learning environment and attractiveness to students. Student outcomes account for 75 percent of the overall score and include factors such as graduation rates, graduate earnings and economic value added.

Molloy received an overall score of 79.93.

The recognition gives a Nassau County university national visibility for measures tied heavily to what happens to students after they enroll and graduate.

Nassau Police Welcome Bethpage Students Back to School

Students at JFK Middle School in Bethpage got a special welcome as Nassau County police visited during the first week of the new school year.

Officers came to the school Wednesday as part of the department's effort to connect with students, parents and school communities as classes resume.

Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said the department makes student and parent engagement an annual part of its back-to-school work.

The focus goes beyond a first-day greeting. Officials said maintaining relationships between students and law enforcement helps build trust and supports public-safety efforts throughout the year.

Free Narcan Training Continues Across Hempstead Town

Town of Hempstead residents have several more opportunities this month to receive free training in how to respond to an opioid overdose.

The town's Narcan program teaches participants how to recognize an overdose, administer Narcan and contact emergency personnel. Participants can also receive a Narcan certification and kit.

Sessions were held September 1 and September 3, but the program continues with additional classes scheduled during September, including September 10 at Hempstead Town Hall, September 14 at Salisbury Park Drive Ballfields, September 17 at East Rockaway Public Library and September 29 at Merrick Golf Course.

Registration is required.

The continuing schedule gives residents multiple local opportunities to learn an emergency-response skill that can be used before professional help arrives.
