๐ Traffic Safety Gets Smart: New Cameras Catch Uninsured Cars

Ainsley Martinez/Herald
Lynbrook Village is stepping up its game with new smart cameras that can spot cars without insurance or registration. It's like having a digital traffic cop watching the streets!
Mayor Alan Beach is excited about this new tech, saying it's time for the village to get modern. The cameras will make roads safer and might even help keep taxes down by catching folks who aren't following the rules.
The system takes pictures of passing cars and checks if they're properly insured and registered. Some people in town are still making up their minds about having cameras around, but the mayor thinks it's worth it for safer streets.
This could be good news for everyone who plays by the rules. When more drivers keep their cars legal, it's better for the whole community. Plus, the money from tickets could help pay for village improvements instead of raising taxes.

โพ Time to Join Baldwin Little League's New Season!

Got a young baseball fan at home? Baldwin Little League is still taking sign-ups for their new season, and they'd love to have your kid join the fun. The league welcomes kids of all skill levels, so don't worry if your little one is just starting out.
This isn't just about baseball - it's about making friends and learning cool stuff like teamwork and good sportsmanship. Kids get to practice, play games, and be part of something special right here in Nassau County.
Want to know the best part? The season's about to start, so timing is perfect. Parents say it's a great way to get their kids active and meet other families in the neighborhood. Plus, the kids have a blast!
Ready to get your kid in the game? Head over to or give them a call to sign up. Spots are still open, but you'll want to hurry before registration closes!

๐Trump Blocks NYC Traffic Fee Plan

Luke Feeney/Herald
The Trump team just put the brakes on New York City's plan to charge drivers entering Manhattan. This was meant to help with traffic jams and raise money for public transit. Now, it's all on hold.
This is a big deal for the MTA - they're now short $15 billion that they were counting on. Janno Lieber, who runs the MTA, says they really need this money to keep trains and buses running smoothly.
The plan would have made drivers pay to enter busy parts of Manhattan. Many people liked this idea because it could mean less traffic and cleaner air. Others weren't so happy about paying extra to drive into the city.
Governor Kathy Hochul is looking for other ways to get money for public transit. Without this plan, fixing old subway stations and making them easier to use for everyone might take longer than planned.
The MTA had big plans to spend $68 billion on making things better. Now they're not sure how they'll pay for it all. This affects millions of New Yorkers who take the subway and buses every day.

๐จโโ๏ธ New Board Member Takes Oath in Oyster Bay

The Town of Oyster Bay welcomes a new face to its Board of Trustees. Andrew Monteleone, a Republican attorney with strong community ties, steps in to fill the spot left by Michele Johnson, who became a district court judge.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Monteleone shared his excitement about serving Oyster Bay residents. "I am honored to serve the residents of Oyster Bay and look forward to working with my colleagues to address the needs of our community," he said.
Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino seems happy with the choice. He praised Monteleone's legal background and commitment to public service, saying these skills will help tackle the town's everyday challenges.
The appointment keeps the board running at full strength, which is good news for Nassau County residents. Monteleone brings his law experience and community work to the table, ready to help with everything from fixing roads to keeping neighborhoods safe.

๐โโ๏ธLifeguard Training Gets a Safety Boost in Hempstead

Jordan Vallone/Herald
The Town of Hempstead is teaming up with EPIC Long Island to make beaches safer for everyone. Their new training program helps lifeguards and safety staff learn how to spot and help people having seizures.
Town Supervisor Don Clavin says this training is a game-changer. "Our lifeguards are the first ones there when something happens, so they need to know exactly what to do in these situations," he explained. Dr. Jennifer McCarthy from EPIC agrees, saying it's all about making public spaces welcoming for everyone.
The training is hands-on and practical. Lifeguards learn to recognize seizure signs and give the right help quickly. It's making a real difference in how the town handles medical emergencies at its beaches and pools.
This program shows how local groups working together can make the community better for everyone. It's especially good news for families affected by seizure disorders, who can now feel more confident visiting Hempstead's beaches.

๐ Emergency Services Get Major Boost in Rockville Centre

Great news for Rockville Centre residents! The local Fire Department just got a big helping hand with a $117,652 grant for a new ambulance. Local officials made the announcement on February 9, 2023, showing their support for better emergency services in the area.
Nassau County Legislators Scott Davis and Debra Mulรฉ joined Mayor Francis Murray to hand over the check. "This funding is crucial for ensuring that our first responders have the tools they need to serve our community effectively," Davis said during the presentation.
The new ambulance will replace an older vehicle that's been serving the community. It's a smart move for the town, as emergency calls keep going up year after year. Mayor Murray sees it as money well spent, saying "Investing in our fire department is an investment in the safety and well-being of our residents."
The grant shows how local government and fire services can work together to make things better for everyone. With this new ambulance, help will get to people faster when they need it most.
