💧 Hempstead Gets $1M for Cleaner Water

Hempstead Village scored $1 million in federal cash for a new water treatment facility. The money helps fund a $55 million project tackling PFAS and 1,4 Dioxane contamination. Construction kicks off this spring, with the facility ready in three to four years.

The North Shore Land Alliance nabbed $1.29 million to buy 5 acres in Oyster Bay Cove. The purchase expands Red Cote Preserve, protecting woods and wildlife corridors. The Pulling family owned the land for over 100 years before the sale.

From Dubai Chocolate to Matcha: Chocolate House Opens in Bethpage

Chocolate House has opened its first Long Island location in Bethpage, taking over the former Dunkin’ spot at 597 Hicksville Road. It is a dessert-focused café built around big-format sweets, including waffles and crepes (plus milkshakes, sundaes, and lava cakes), with a front-and-center chocolate fountain that people immediately notice. The menu leans heavily into chocolate and topping-loaded combinations, including “Dubai chocolate” options, but there are also non-chocolate picks like matcha, pistachio, and lattes. It is currently open daily from 2 p.m. to midnight, so it is more of an after-dinner stop than a morning café, and you should expect crowds early on.
