🌟Celebrating Black Excellence in Oyster Bay

The Town of Oyster Bay came together for a special Black History Month event on Tuesday. The presentation put the spotlight on amazing African Americans who made their mark in Oyster Bay and Nassau County.

Local history buffs and community leaders shared stories about people who shaped the area's past and present. Visitors got to see old photos and items that tell the story of African American life in the region. Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino was there to show his support.

"This celebration is not just about remembering the past," Saladino said. "It's about inspiring future generations to continue the legacy of excellence and community service."

The event did more than just look back at history - it brought people together. It helped everyone learn about the different voices that make up our community. Local news teams were there to capture it all, and many folks joined in online too.

💰Freeport's Money Magic: 12 Years Without Tax Hikes

Good news for Freeport locals - your tax rates aren't going up this year! The Village Board just passed its budget for the 12th year straight without asking residents to pay more.

Mayor Robert Kennedy and his team have kept their promise to watch every penny. They're fixing roads, running community programs, and keeping the lights on - all without reaching deeper into people's pockets.

"We want to help our community grow without making life harder for our residents," says Mayor Kennedy. The steady tax rates mean people have more money to spend locally, which helps small businesses stay open.

This smart money handling is making Freeport stand out. Other towns are taking notice of how Freeport keeps things running smoothly while keeping costs down for its people.

The latest budget got the green light on November 18, 2024. It shows you can take care of a town without always asking for more money - and that's something worth celebrating!

🌟Glen Cove Downtown's Year of Big Wins

Glen Cove's downtown has had an amazing year. Summer concerts filled the streets with music and fun, while new art murals added splashes of color to city walls. New shops and restaurants have opened their doors, bringing fresh life to the area.

The Business Improvement District (BID) played a big role in making all this happen. They brought people together through fun events that got everyone out and about. Local shop owners say more people are coming downtown, and sales are up.

Mayor Ralph Suozzi puts it well: "Thanks to the hard work of the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District, our downtown is thriving like never before." The team effort between the BID, local artists, and business owners has made the city center more welcoming and lively.

These changes mean more than just pretty streets - they're helping local businesses grow and giving people more reasons to spend time downtown. It's great news for Nassau County, as a strong downtown means a stronger community.

🏋️New Fitness Gear Coming to Long Beach Rec Center

Great news for Long Beach fitness lovers! The City Council just said yes to buying new workout equipment for our Recreation Center. It's the first big update in over 10 years, and it couldn't come at a better time.

The old machines were breaking down a lot, and many people had been asking for better equipment. The Council voted all in favor of getting new cardio and strength-training gear. This comes as more people want to get back into shape after staying home during COVID.

"This isn't just about new machines - it's about helping our community get healthier," said one Council member. Another added that putting money into the rec center means investing in everyone's health.

The new equipment will make working out more fun and bring more people to the center. It shows how Long Beach cares about keeping its community active and healthy. The center plans to get the new equipment installed soon, giving everyone better ways to stay fit
