🌳Get Your Park Picnic Permit Online in Oyster Bay

Good news for Oyster Bay residents - getting a picnic permit just got easier! The town has rolled out a new online system that lets you apply for permits right from your computer or phone.

Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino seems pretty excited about it too. He says this new service shows how much they care about making things simple for families who want to spend time in the parks. "We want families to make great memories in our beautiful parks," he shared at a recent town meeting.

The switch to online permits makes a lot of sense for everyone. No more waiting in line or dealing with paperwork - just a quick online form and you're set to host your next family BBQ or group picnic. You can check out the new system on the Town of Oyster Bay's website.

This change is great for the whole community. It makes it much easier for everyone to get outside, enjoy the parks, and spend quality time with family and friends.

🚗 Traffic Cameras Join the Fight Against Car Theft

Nassau County is stepping up its game against car thieves with a smart new plan. The county just gave the green light to put up special traffic cameras that can read license plates at intersections.

Starting in Jericho, 20 new cameras will keep an eye out for stolen cars. This comes after locals have been worried about rising car thefts in their neighborhoods. County officials think these cameras will help catch thieves and maybe even stop them from trying in the first place.

"This is a proactive measure to protect our residents and their property," says County Executive Bruce Blakeman. The news has caught the attention of many media outlets, showing how much people care about keeping their cars safe.

This move is part of a bigger push to make Nassau County safer. While some folks might have questions about privacy, the main goal is clear - keeping cars where they belong: with their owners.

🏃‍♂️New Athletic Hub Coming to Point Lookout

The Town of Hempstead is building something big for sports lovers. They just started work on two huge sports fields in Point Lookout that will cost about $8 million. These aren't just any fields - they're special turf fields made for field hockey, lacrosse, and soccer.

What makes this cool? The fields will have lights for night games and an electronic scoreboard. Plus, they're fixing the old flooding problems with new drainage systems. Town Supervisor Don Clavin says this will bring more visitors and money to the area.

The Rough Riders soccer club is excited too. Their manager Tanner Sands mentioned they're working with Major League Soccer to get more kids playing. This is great news for local teams who usually have to travel far to find good fields.

Local teams will finally have a top-notch place to play, and the town might even host some big tournaments. It's a win for everyone who loves sports in Nassau County.

The best part? These fields will work for all kinds of games and skill levels. From little league to national tournaments, Point Lookout is about to become a go-to spot for athletes which should be ready by summer 2025.

🏗️ New $10M Water Tower Coming to Uniondale

The Town of Hempstead is getting ready to say goodbye to its old water tower after more than 70 years of service. Town officials just gave the green light to build a new one, with work starting this summer.

The old tower, built back in 1955, has been showing its age. Local residents have been dealing with discolored water and other issues that keep popping up. Town Supervisor Don Clavin says fixing the old tower would cost almost as much as building a new one - about $9 million versus $10 million for a brand new structure.

The new tower is part of a bigger $225 million plan to make the town's water better. It should be up and running by 2027, bringing cleaner water to over 700,000 people in the area. "Maintaining our drinking water is about protecting public health," Clavin said.

The new tower will be built to last, using materials that won't need as much fixing up over time. This means fewer repairs and better water quality for everyone in Uniondale for years to come.

🛠️ Grand Avenue Gets a Fresh Look in Baldwin

Big news for Baldwin residents! The Nassau County Legislature's Rules Committee just said yes to making Grand Avenue even better. On January 6, they gave the thumbs up for the second round of fixes to this busy street.

This isn't just about fixing potholes - we're talking about a full makeover. The plans include better walkways for people out and about, and some nice touches to make the street look prettier. The whole idea is to make Grand Avenue a place where people want to spend time.

"This project is investing in our community's future," says Legislator Debra Mulé. She's right - when streets work better, businesses do better too. More people walking around means more customers for local shops.

Local business owners are getting excited about these changes. Better roads and nicer sidewalks mean more people might stop by their stores. It's all part of making Baldwin an even better place to live and work.
