🌊 Brave The Cold: Oyster Bay's 2024 Polar Plunge Gets Green Light!

Get ready to feel the chill for a good cause! The Town of Oyster Bay Board has given the thumbs up for next year's Special Olympics Polar Plunge at TOBAY Beach on March 29, 2025. This fun-filled event brings the community together to support athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Last year's plunge was a huge hit. Hundreds of people showed up in fun costumes, ready to jump into the cold water. The energy was electric, with friends and families cheering from the beach as brave participants took the plunge.

Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino says it best: "The Polar Plunge is not just a thrilling event; it's a powerful way to show our support for the athletes of the Special Olympics." He wants everyone to join in and make a difference.

The money raised helps Special Olympics athletes in Nassau County train and compete. These events do more than raise funds - they show everyone what these amazing athletes can do. Local businesses, schools, and neighbors all pitch in, making it a true community celebration.

🍀Get Ready For Wantagh's Irish Spirit!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 16, 2025! Wantagh's getting ready for its 5th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, and it's going to be a blast. The fun kicks off at 2 p.m. from Wantagh High School, with people gathering from noon to set up their floats and get in line.

This year's parade will be led by Tommy Shevlin, who heads the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association. The parade will move down Wantagh Avenue and end at Park Avenue, where the real party begins. You'll find two amazing block parties on Railroad Avenue and Park Avenue waiting for you!

Getting there will be easy - extra LIRR trains are being added for the big day. Just keep in mind that some streets, like Beltagh and Wantagh Avenues, will be closed from noon.

The parade has become more than just a celebration - it's a day when everyone comes together to share in the fun. Local shops get busy, families come out to enjoy the festivities, and the whole community lights up with Irish spirit.

🏘️ Faith & Housing: Long Island Community Seeks Solutions

A powerful meeting took place in Lakeview on February 19, 2023, bringing together local faith leaders and housing advocates. The focus was clear - finding real answers to Long Island's housing problems.

The event showed just how bad the housing situation has gotten in Nassau County. Rising rents and steady wages mean many families can't find places to live that fit their budget.

Rev. John Smith didn't mince words at the meeting. "Everyone deserves a place to call home," he said, pushing church communities to step up. Maria Gonzalez, a housing advocate, backed this up by stressing that waiting isn't an option anymore.

The meeting brought hope that when faith groups and housing experts work together, good things can happen. They're looking at new ways to use church resources and community connections to help more people find homes they can afford.

🔋Town Halts Battery Storage Project After Community Push

The Town of Hempstead just put the brakes on a big battery project in Island Park. The board voted to stop all work for a year on the planned 40-megawatt lithium battery storage system at 4200 Industrial Place.

Local residents packed the town meeting to voice their worries about safety and environmental risks. "We need to prioritize the safety of our community over energy projects that could pose risks," said one concerned neighbor. The board listened and voted unanimously for the pause.

This isn't just about one project - it shows how towns are trying to find the right balance between green energy and keeping everyone safe. The year-long break will give officials time to look more carefully at all the effects this battery system might have on Island Park.
