🥫 Helping Hands: Nassau Pledges $100K to Support Food Banks

Nassau County is taking action to ease local worries over paused SNAP benefits during the federal government shutdown. The county is investing $100,000 into two major food banks—Island Harvest and Long Island Cares—with each receiving $50,000 for every week SNAP is on hold. This support aims to help the 184,000 Long Islanders who rely on SNAP. While questions remain about when federal payments will resume, county leaders and food banks are focused on keeping shelves stocked and neighbors fed.

🚧 Major Makeover for Shore Road

A $14M redesign is set to transform Shore Road and Prospect Avenue into a safer, greener corridor connecting Sea Cliff, Glenwood Landing, and Glen Cove. The project includes bike lanes, sidewalks, stormwater upgrades, and decorative touches like lighting and benches. Construction begins in 2027, and locals say it’s a long-awaited win for walkers, bikers, and beachgoers alike.

🏑 5-Peat Glory for Massapequa Field Hockey

Massapequa clinched its fifth straight Nassau Class A field hockey title, defeating Port Washington 2–0. Sophia Bolognini and Ella Van Nostrand scored just over two minutes apart to seal the win. With stellar teamwork and defense—including a clutch penalty save by Isla Sikinger—the team heads to the Long Island championship on a hot streak.

☕ Local Love Brews in Roslyn

Sweet Harbor Coffee just opened in Roslyn, bringing cozy vibes and Long Island summer energy year-round. Owners Alexis and Joe Jensen—who also just welcomed a baby—crafted a small but mighty menu of espresso drinks, like their maple sea salt latte and cardamom rose chai. It’s the first true neighborhood coffee shop in a town known for Manhattan imports.
