Good news for Oyster Bay residents! The town just got $244,000 from New York State to help protect our beaches and restore natural habitats. This money is part of a bigger $2.4 million plan to take care of the South Shore Estuary Reserve.

The announcement came at TOBAY Beach on September 24, 2025. The money will help plant more shellfish in the Great South Bay and add dune grass to make the shoreline stronger. Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino says these areas are key for keeping our community safe from floods while giving everyone great places to enjoy the outdoors.

Port Jefferson's Harvest Festival is back on October 18-19 with free admission for all. The village will come alive with local vendors, live music, seasonal food, and family activities like pumpkin picking and crafts.

St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Glen Head hosts its yearly Fall Bazaar on October 18. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can browse homemade treats, crafts, and fall decorations in the church garden, with an indoor backup if it rains.

Nassau County will get money for flood protection and fixing up natural areas, making neighborhoods safer and greener for everyone.

Pet insurance could help you offset rising veterinary costs

Veterinarians nationwide reported that corporate managers pushed clinics to focus on profit, with vets often paid based on revenue. This encouraged them to see more pets, order more tests, and upsell services, creating a growing burden for uninsured pet owners. Pet insurance could help you offset some of these rising costs, with some providing up to 90% reimbursement. View Money’s top pet insurance picks to see plans starting at only $10/month.
