• Fun Fact Spotlight
North Hills has a rock fact that actually earns the word giant. Village history says Shelter Rock was, by the end of World War I, the most photographed rock formation in the United States, and it remains the largest glacial boulder on Long Island at roughly 54 by 40 by 16 feet and about 2,600 tons. Nassau has a celebrity rock.
Grant Expands Care Access for Long Islanders With Disabilities
Long Island Select Healthcare received a $2.3 million OPWDD award to expand care for people with developmental disabilities. The funding supports work at its Riverhead site, including primary care treatment rooms, five dental exam rooms, accessibility upgrades, sensory-friendly areas, and a mobile healthcare unit for primary and dental care across Suffolk County. For Nassau readers, the direct local impact still needs verification.

Oyster Bay has a new waterfront tribute to Long Island’s shellfishing heritage. The Baymen’s Memorial Monument was dedicated June 3 at Theodore Roosevelt Park, overlooking Oyster Bay Harbor. The Baymen’s Heritage Association helped fund the project, with support that included a large donation from Billy Joel, and says its broader goal is to preserve shellfishing history and educate future generations.
