Friends of the Bay has been keeping an eye on local waters for eight years now, checking up on Oyster Bay, Cold Spring Harbor, and Mill Neck Creek. Their work is more needed than ever this National Water Quality Month. The team's recent findings paint a concerning picture. Water samples show high levels of hypoxia — which means there's not enough oxygen in the water for marine life to thrive. This problem has gotten worse due to lots of rain and warm weather.
The good news? Friends of the Bay is not giving up. They're out there testing the waters and making sure our local marine life stays healthy. They're also getting local folks involved in protecting these waters we all share.
