$455M Belmont Park Reopens for Racing Today

Belmont Park in Elmont is reopening for thoroughbred racing today, Friday, September 18, after three years of redevelopment.
The opening-day program is headlined by the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup, with international racing star Forever Young expected in the field. Country singer Dierks Bentley is also scheduled to perform.
The redevelopment includes a new grandstand and four racing surfaces. Only the first two levels of the grandstand are opening for the fall meet, with the remaining levels expected to open in April 2027.
The project is being financed through a $455 million state-authorized loan, not a grant. Belmont Park is reopening in stages while construction on the upper levels continues.

Barrier Brewing's Fifth Annual Oktoberfest Returns Sept. 19
Barrier Brewing Company is bringing its fifth annual Oktoberfest celebration to Oceanside on Saturday, September 19.
The event is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. at the brewery, 3001 New Street. Barrier is encouraging guests to wear lederhosen or dirndls, and branded steins will be available for purchase.
