When a fellow firefighter fell through a burning roof in Roslyn Heights last October, Charles Karen had seconds to react.

Carle Place 1st Assistant Chief William Geddish had fallen through the roof and became trapped waist-deep in the burning attic.

Karen grabbed him and pulled him out.

Geddish survived, but spent three weeks recovering in the burn unit at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Now Karen has been named Firefighter of the Year for valor by the Firefighters Association of the State of New York, recognizing the Carle Place volunteer for the rescue.

It’s a statewide honor with a very local story behind it.

There’s a lot happening in Nassau’s auto row.

Long Island construction firm TACA Group is currently working on new ground-up Toyota and Audi dealerships in Westbury, along with a new Infiniti dealership in Syosset.
