Glen Cove Lands $15K to Fight Cigarette Litter

Glen Cove is launching a citywide effort to keep cigarette litter out of its streets and waterways.
The city received a $15,000 grant that will help pay for nearly 20 cigarette waste receptacles at selected locations.
Portable disposal pouches will also be distributed, giving smokers another way to properly dispose of cigarette butts when a receptacle is not nearby.
The initiative is intended to prevent cigarette waste from entering storm drains and eventually reaching the Long Island Sound.
Placement, regular maintenance and public use of the new receptacles will be central to the program’s success.
