🏗️ $61M Hicksville Project Moves Closer to Construction

Hicksville keeps adding housing near the train.

Cornerstone Hicksville would bring 106 apartments and about 3,100 square feet of commercial space to a four-story building on Jerusalem Avenue, a short walk from the Hicksville LIRR station.

Here’s what’s planned:

• 21 studios, 70 one-bedroom apartments, and 15 two-bedroom apartments

• 13 reduced-rent units for households earning up to 80% of the area median income

• About 230 parking spaces

• A fitness center, clubroom, and co-working space

• Improvements to the neighboring office building

The development is receiving Nassau IDA assistance, including sales and mortgage tax exemptions and a 20-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement. The property also requires more than $5 million in environmental remediation because part of the site was previously used by a dry-cleaning business.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2027 and take about two years.

💧 Nassau Water Systems Get More Than $3M for Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity now matters all the way down to the tap.

Nassau water and sewer systems are receiving more than $3 million in state grants to assess vulnerabilities, develop response plans, and strengthen defenses against cyberattacks.

Some of the larger Nassau awards include:

• Bayville Water Department: $400,000

• Oyster Bay Water District: $357,700

• West Hempstead Water District: $348,700

• Hicksville Water District: $342,200

• Westbury Water District: $295,750

• Locust Valley Water District: $275,000

• Plainview Water District: $255,000

Projects were also funded in Bethpage, Franklin Square, Glen Cove, Great Neck, Hempstead, Massapequa, Roslyn, South Farmingdale, and other communities.

The money comes through New York’s SECURE grant program, created to help drinking-water and sewer systems meet new minimum cybersecurity standards. It is not a flashy infrastructure project, but protecting local water systems from disruption is basic public safety.
