East Williston has a firehouse story with a barn-find twist. Its 1929 Maxim pumper was sold off, then rediscovered under hay in an upstate barn in 1981.
🏥 Veterans home at Stony Brook gets $2M for upgrades
The Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University is getting more than $2 million from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for infrastructure improvements.
The funding will support upgrades at the 35-year-old facility, which provides long-term care for veterans and eligible family members. For Long Island families with loved ones in veteran care, the grant points to continued investment in safety, comfort, and facility upkeep.

California. Texas. The Billboard Hot 100. It's all on Kalshi.
The California governor primary is live right now. So is the Texas Senate race, the 2028 presidential field, and the question of whether Taylor Swift releases a song for Toy Story 5.
Political and cultural markets on Kalshi move in real time — as news breaks, odds shift. Which means someone who reads closely, follows polls, and actually pays attention to what's happening has a genuine edge over someone who doesn't.
On Kalshi, information is the advantage. The platform is federally regulated under the CFTC, with no house edge and no restricted winners. Every dollar traded reflects real collective intelligence about what's going to happen.
If you're already following politics and culture closely, Kalshi turns that attention into an asset.

📚 Mobile bookstore finds a permanent home in Bellmore
What started as a bookstore on wheels now has a storefront in Bellmore.
The Wandering Page has opened at 103 Bedford Ave., giving readers a new independent bookstore with books, literary gifts, and space to sit and browse. Owner Denise Cruz first built a following with her mobile bookstore at events across Long Island, then moved into a permanent location after a Bedford Avenue storefront became available.
The shop is also making room for Spanish-language books, local authors, and community events.
đźš’ Lynbrook Fire Department marks 125 years with parade honors
Lynbrook Fire Department had more than a milestone to celebrate at its 125th Anniversary Parade.
The department earned several Best Appearing honors during Saturday’s parade, which also brought together fire departments from across the Fourth Battalion. Valley Stream Fire Department was named the overall parade winner.
For Lynbrook, the event was part anniversary celebration, part community recognition for a department with 125 years of service behind it.
