🌊 Mineola Eyes Housing in a Former Bank as East Hills Restores a Landmark
A historic Mineola bank could become apartments and retail while the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge gets new life in East Hills.

Hello Nassau! Let’s Talk What’s New & What’s Next
We’re closing the week with two stories about Nassau’s older spaces finding new purpose. In Mineola, a former bank could become housing and retail, while East Hills is restoring the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge. The best version of preservation is not just keeping the past frozen. It keeps local history visible while making room for what comes next.

Baxter Estates was once a lot louder than its current image suggests. The village says about one fifth of it was used for sand mining, with barges loading near what is now the village-owned beach.

Developers are planning a $15.44 million mixed-use project at 199 Jericho Turnpike in Mineola, converting a historic 1929 bank building into 28 apartments and 3,000 square feet of retail space. The proposal includes preserving the building’s facade, keeping a familiar piece of Mineola’s streetscape while adding new housing near the village center.
The project also sits within Mineola’s broader push for downtown revitalization, with ties to the Jericho Turnpike Overlay District, NY Forward funding, affordable housing, and local smart-growth planning. It is a practical example of the kind of redevelopment Nassau villages keep facing: adding housing and street-level activity without wiping away the older buildings that give a place its character.
Why This Collagen Works Faster Than the Rest 🧜‍♀️✨
For decades, beauty has focused on quick fixes: what you put on your skin. But the most radiant glow, strongest hair, and healthiest aging begin from within.
Introducing Pique's Carrara Marine Collagen, a true breakthrough in beauty. This first-of-its-kind formula combines Type I marine collagen for visible radiance with rare Type II collagen from wild Hokkaido salmon to support deeper structural resilience. Enhanced with biotin and micronized pearl powder, Carrara helps promote smoother, more luminous skin, stronger hair and nails, and whole-body vitality.
Designed for superior absorption, you'll see results faster than with traditional collagen. Its rich coconut cream base transforms your daily routine into something indulgent. More ritual than supplement, it elevates even your morning coffee or matcha.
This is collagen, completely reimagined. Not just glow but structure. Not just results but longevity. A new foundation for beauty, built from within. 🧜‍♀️✨

🏛️ Mackay Estate Gate Lodge gets new life in East Hills
The historic Mackay Estate Gate Lodge in East Hills is getting renewed attention through a preservation effort led by the Roslyn Landmark Society and the Village of East Hills. The work focuses on restoring key historic details, including windows, doors, the original slate roof, ornamental copper gutters, finials, and the historic clock.
The lodge is tied to the former Harbor Hill estate, one of Nassau’s Gold Coast landmarks. Unlike the Mineola project, this is not adaptive reuse or a housing proposal. It is restoration, and that distinction matters. In a county where many historic estates and older structures have disappeared, keeping this piece of Nassau’s past visible is the story.
