Some of the heaviest pieces of history in Nassau County just got a new home.

The Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage has opened a new $1 million, 9,000-square-foot facility next to its existing museum at Old Bethpage Village Restoration.

The extra space gives the museum somewhere indoors to protect more of its World War II-era tanks, armored vehicles and other historic equipment from the elements.

Among the vehicles already inside are a replica Tiger tank, a British Comet tank that served in Germany during the closing months of World War II, and a vintage fire truck similar to those once stationed at Mitchel Field.

And they won’t stay tucked away.

The museum plans to rotate vehicles from the new building into its public displays beginning this fall, giving repeat visitors something new to see.

The project was supported in part by a $500,000 Nassau County matching grant, along with additional state funding.

Contractor Express has been serving builders and homeowners out of Oceanside since 1981.

Now a change is coming.

Riverhead Building Supply plans to acquire certain assets of the longtime lumber and building-materials dealer, expanding its presence along Nassau County’s South Shore.

Contractor Express employees are expected to support the expanded operation, while company president Bob Lucas plans to retire following the transition after 48 years in the industry.

The deal isn’t finished yet. It’s expected to close in September, subject to due diligence.

So for now, it’s less of a goodbye and more of a handoff for a Nassau business that’s been around for roughly 45 years.

There’s a big dollar figure attached to two offshore wind projects taking shape around Long Island.

A new study from the Long Island Association estimates that South Fork Wind and Sunrise Wind will generate more than $460 million in economic activity across Nassau and Suffolk counties between 2022 and 2027.

South Fork Wind, which began operating in 2024, accounted for an estimated $95 million in construction-related impact and 387 jobs.

Sunrise Wind, scheduled for completion in 2027, is expected to generate more than $350 million in economic impact and support about 1,400 jobs.

The study also projects another $20 million in recurring economic activity each year after 2027, tied to long-term operations and skilled jobs.

That includes work for engineers, electricians, ironworkers, marine crews and technicians across the region.
