$2.8M Makeover Begins at Mineola’s Community Center

Mineola’s community center at 155 Washington Avenue is getting a $2.8 million renovation, with a $1.13 million state grant helping cover the cost. Groundbreaking was announced September 18, and completion is expected in June 2027.

The money will modernize the gym, classrooms and kitchen, replace aging heating and cooling equipment, and add a new gym floor, wall padding and lighting. Stage improvements, storage and recreation office space are also included.

For residents, the payoff is a more dependable home for sports, camps, senior activities and community groups. The state says unreliable building systems have disrupted programming; this project addresses those problems.

PopUp Bagels Is Now Open in Garden City

There’s a new bagel stop on Old Country Road. PopUp Bagels celebrated the opening of its Garden City shop on September 25, according to News 12. The location is at 928 Old Country Road, in the Gallery at Westbury Plaza.

The concept centers on warm bagels and schmear rather than a traditional deli-style sandwich counter. Heading over for the first time? Check the ordering options and current hours before making the trip.

Lakeview Adds a New Neighborhood Coffee Stop

The Neighborhood Coffee celebrated its grand opening in Lakeview on September 12, adding another locally owned destination to Woodfield Road. The shop is at 678 Woodfield Road, with coffee and food for neighbors stopping in during the day.

This is a recent opening, not an announcement of a future project. For Lakeview and nearby West Hempstead readers, it’s another option to keep in mind for a coffee break or a catch-up close to home.
