Hello Nassau! Let’s Talk What’s New & What’s Next
Good morning, Nassau! We’re taking a closer look at funding for local fire services, then turning to two things you can do yourself: clear out unwanted household items and submit a favorite Long Beach photo for the city calendar.

$759,824 in Capital Awards for Nassau Fire Services

Illustration created with AI.
Four Nassau County recipients were awarded a combined $759,824 in the state’s September volunteer-fire capital funding round. The local awards are $287,324 for the City of Glen Cove, $189,500 for the Village of Lynbrook Fire Department, $188,000 for New Hyde Park Fire District and $95,000 for Alert Engine Hook Ladder and Hose Co. No. 1.
The program supports fire-service facilities and equipment. These are capital awards, not a report that every improvement is complete or equipment is already in use. Nassau’s total is the sum of those four awards, not the statewide funding figure.

Plan Ahead: October 17 Cleanup and Free Paper Shredding
Set aside the household items and old paperwork you’ve been meaning to clear out. The Town of Oyster Bay’s next listed Homeowners Cleanup Day is Saturday, October 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Solid Waste Disposal Complex, 101 Bethpage-Sweet Hollow Road in Old Bethpage.
The program accepts specified non-hazardous waste and includes free paper shredding. It is limited to eligible Solid Waste Disposal District residents, with proof of residency required; businesses are excluded. Check accepted items and shredding limits before loading your car. This is not the separate hazardous-material collection.

Could Your Photo Make Long Beach’s 2027 Calendar?
That favorite local photo may have a place beyond your camera roll. Long Beach is accepting high-resolution images for its 2027 city calendar through October 21.
Photos must have been taken within city limits. Include your name and the month or season pictured, then send submissions to [email protected]. The city plans to select twelve main monthly images and additional smaller photos, so submitting a picture does not guarantee publication.

I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.
Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.
The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.
