East Rockaway used to have a boatbuilder’s nickname that sounds invented. New York State waterfront history materials say the village was once called Clinktown, a nod to clink-building, a method where overlapping hull boards were fastened and “clinched” on the inside. One Nassau village was basically named after how its boats were built.

NYU Langone Plans Medical Campus Near Nassau Border

NYU Langone is planning a new academic medical center in Melville, near the Nassau-Suffolk border. The proposed campus would include more than 500 private inpatient rooms, 70 emergency department bays, advanced procedure suites, research space, outpatient care, and NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine. It still needs state and local approvals, so construction and opening timing remain unsettled.

Safety Upgrades Begin Near Saint Francis Hospital

Work is underway at Port Washington Boulevard and Middle Neck Road near Saint Francis Hospital in Flower Hill. NYSDOT says the $3.5 million project will add sidewalks, a new crosswalk, audible pedestrian signals, countdown timers, reflective pavement markings, and turning-lane changes. The intersection carries about 30,000 vehicles a day, and completion is expected by the end of 2026.
